Author Talk with Jeanne Theoharis

Author Talk with Jeanne Theoharis In-Person

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee will present a riveting discussion by Brooklyn College Professor Jeanne Theoharis. She will discuss her groundbreaking new book “King of the North: Martin Luther King Jr.’s Life of Struggle Outside the South.” Following her presentation, Professor Theoharis will be interviewed by U. Mass. Boston Professor Lynnell Thomas.
“King of the North” is a radical reframing of King’s life and work. Theoharis reveals a King often overlooked in mainstream narratives— as a leader who didn’t just inspire a movement but stood in solidarity with struggles throughout the nation. And, for the first time in a King biography, Theoharis gives special attention to the early and pivotal role of Coretta Scott King as Martin’s partner and political advisor in the fight against racism, poverty, imperialism, and war.
Jeanne Theoharis is also the author of the highly acclaimed “The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks,” a winner of the NAACP Image Award.
